PREPARING YOUR CLASS:
You should have bCourses and CalCentral access to your classes.
In bCourses, your classes will not automatically populate -- you will first need to create a course site, selecting from the courses for which you are the instructor. Instructors of record (including language coordinators and R&C faculty supervisors) may need to do this for GSIs as the first step.
bCourses(link is external): bcourses.berkeley.edu
an online interactive space using the Canvas platform: Upload readings & syllabi, communicate with students, virtual forums and assignments, start Zoom class meetings. Support, tutorials, and training events here

Faculty supervisors may need to create course sites on behalf of GSIs – instructions here
Please make sure all interested students have access to your bCourses and Zoom links -- those who are not enrolled nor on the waiting list, including Concurrent Enrollment and cross-registration students, and auditors, will not be on your roster or have access to your bCourses pages, receive bCourses announcements, etc.
Manually add users to bCourses or email them with Zoom links, readings, etc.
NOTE: If you use bCourses, the campus will utilize your bCourses page to send a single-question “academic participation survey” to students, as mandated by the Department of Education. This is to verify that students are intending to participate and attend all of the classes they are enrolled in, to ensure they receive financial aid and awards. Read the info for faculty and instructors here. No action is required by instructors, but you are encouraged to send reminders to students to complete the survey.

ENROLLMENTS:
See Enrollment Calendar for enrollment deadlines
Auditing, Concurrent Enrollment, and Visiting Students:
Non-Berkeley students can enroll in campus classes through UC Berkeley Extension's Concurrent Enrollment Program. See here for details on Concurrent Enrollment.
Students at certain local institutions, California community colleges, and other UCs can enroll through a cross-registration program
-
UC Berkeley students have enrollment priority. If your class has a waiting list, we should not yet approve visiting students or auditors.
-
PDF:Instructions for Concurrent Enrollment applications. Instructors (or faculty supervisors for GSIs) approve or deny their applications on CalCentral; the Undergraduate Advisor also approves/denies.
-
Graduate students from other UCs attempting to enroll via UC Online should instead enroll via UC Intercampus Exchange; forms found at their home institution’s Graduate Division.
SUPPORTING STUDENTS:
GSIs, keep your faculty supervisor informed of any concerns for your students, or if you need support. They are the instructor of record of your course, and can handle issues on your behalf.
A single entry point for all UC Berkeley community members to find support for themselves or others about a variety of concerns. Many of the resources below are also found on this site.
Trans Resource Hub Provides comprehensive information on education, advocacy, and community spaces centering and supporting Trans and Nonbinary communities. Key resources include our Gender Recognition and Lived Name (GRLN) Policy, Inclusive Restrooms Map, and Gender-Affirming Benefits through SHIP (Student Health Insurance Program)

Disabled Students' Program(link is external):
a voluntary program for students who have documented physical, medical, and/or psychological conditions and require individualized services. Students registered with DSP have a Letter of Accommodation for their instructors, accessible through the Faculty Portal, and a counselor who can clarify their accommodations or help you address any concerns.
-
Students can register with DSP at any time; if you do not currently have students on DSP, you might later.
-
Faculty supervisors of GSIs, please pass along any letters of accommodation to GSIs, who may not automatically receive these.
-
From AHDO: If you have a class with a large number of students each of whom have distinct sets of accommodations, you will be interested in a feature on the Accessible Information Management (AIM) website that allows instructors to synthesize information about the distinct accommodations into a single spreadsheet. The spreadsheet is generated by clicking the button "Accommodation Requests.”
Center for Support and Intervention(link is external) and Care Reports:
"addresses prevention and intervention for harm and violence on campus, and provides support to students experiencing or causing distress in the campus community."
-
Submit a Care Report if a student starts exhibiting unusual behavior; their quality of work, appearance, or conversation changes, or they are suddenly and extensively ill, absent, or non-communicative. Care Reports document your efforts to contact the student, connect the student to a caseworker and campus-wide resources, and may also inform the student's other advisors, counselors, etc. No concern is too small, and I usually recommend this option.
Mental health resources for yourself, and for referring students to care:
