Slavic 26A: Introductory Czech

THE 26A-26B COURSE SEQUENCE BEGINS IN THE FALL TERM ONLY.
The sequence of 26A (Fall) and 26B (Spring) emphasizes development of communicative skills, vocabulary, and grammatical competence through a variety of media. To minimize student costs, instructional materials will be made available through the course website, a small reader, and handouts. (A student without ready access to a computer can request printouts of online materials from the instructor.) The course covers a range of communicative situations, the fundamentals of Czech grammar, and basic vocabulary. At the same time, students receive an introduction to Czech culture through film, music, and short readings in Czech, including excerpts from Czech poetry and prose, history, social studies, and current events. Daily homework, periodic quizzes and tests, midterm, oral, and final exam.
