Slavic 103B: Advanced Russian, Part II

MWF 11-12, 89 Dwinelle. Instructor: Anna Muza.

Units: 4

Instructor’s email: amuza@berkeley.edu

The course is an upper-division language class which aims at advancing all aspects of verbal fluency, in particular, the ability to read authentic Russian texts, understand and use complex grammar, and employ idiomatic patterns of speech. We will review or introduce those areas of Russian grammar that have not been covered in depth on the elementary/intermediate level, and significantly expand your vocabulary.

We will begin with grammatical and lexical analysis of shorter excerpts from Russian originals, and eventually move to longer complete texts, such as short stories, essays, and/or journalistic writing.

Prerequisites: 4 semesters of Russian, Slavic 103A or equivalent if approved by the instructor.
