This course is a survey of the phonology, morphology, and syntax of contemporary Russian, with some attention to selected issues in phonetics, semantics, sociolinguistics, colloquial usage, and discourse structure. The course is intended to serve as a review of Russian grammar, thorough description of important categories such as aspect and word order, and an introduction to best practice in applying linguistic analysis to concerns that come up in the Russian language classroom. Some current problems in the description and analysis of Russian will be discussed.
