Russian 103B: Advanced Russian

The course is an upper-division language class. It addresses some challenging areas of Russian grammar and syntax. The course is designed for students who have completed the lower-division Russian 1 – 4. The goal is to develop students’ ability to read authentic Russian texts, understand and use complex grammar, and employ idiomatic patterns of speech. The course is based on original Russian texts of different genders of writing.
Requirements: weekly home assignments, some independent reading of the texts of students’ choice, one short oral presentation on a topic of students’ choice.
The material will be adjusted in accordance with students’ individual goals and interests.
Taught in Russian. All materials provided by the instructor.
Grades will be based on attendance/participation, completion of assignments, presentation, in-class short tests and final take-home exam.
Prerequisites: Russian 103A or consent of instructor.
